Willie Rueda · Trébol Wheatens
Willie (Guillermo) Rueda is an architect who lives and practices in Washington DC. For more than 40 years, Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers have been a part of his life. In 1996, he began breeding under the Trébol prefix and in 2001 joined forces with a fellow SCWT breeder (Orion), a partnership that has yielded specialty winners and multiple champions in a selective breeding program that also measures its success at performance venues. He currently keeps two (2) Border Terriers at home and co-owns a Kerry Blue Terrier that he also shows.
Understanding and evaluating the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Standard has always been paramount. He has judged the Breed at a handful of local, national, and international Specialties over the years, inluding a Regional Specialty show in Ängsö Sweden. More recently, Willie was selected by his peers to judge the National Specialty Sweepstakes at Montgomery County Kennel Club in 2021.
Among his contributions outside the ring, Guillermo is a member of the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America, has served on their Board of Directors, and has been an approved mentor of the Breed for more than 10 years. In 2007, Guillermo published online more than 10 years, his collection of almost 50,000 SCWT pedigrees from around the world on the scwtpeds.com website—a compendium of work that has provided much of the historical data SCWT Databases around the world. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Genetic Research Foundation, which funds genetic health research related to Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers and recently joined forces with the SCWT Endowment to create and support the Red Hat Fund.
