Gulpies, IBD, & Food Allergies

Presented by Meryl P. Littman VMD DACVIM

The “gulpies” as I know the term from the description of many owners and breeders, and videos sent to me, is often associated with GI (gastrointestinal) reflux, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and food allergies (all of which Wheatens are predisposed to getting). The signs are suggestive of a possible association with a transient abnormal positioning of the pharyngeal and laryngeal structures (soft palate and epiglottis) with stimulation of cranial nerve IX (glossopharyngeal nerve) and/or cranial nerve X (vagus nerve), and/or irritation of the esophagus with stimulation of the phrenic nerve.

That is the opening paragraph to a paper published by our presenter in 2019. Join us for what promises to be a wealth of information that will be useful for every wheaten owner.
