About Us:

2025 marked the 200th Anniversary of the Erie Canal. The year 2025 also marked the initial planning efforts of four longtime friends and Wheaten enthusiasts who worked toward the creation of a local club. In early 2026, the AKC recognized our efforts! We now celebrate the beginning of the Wheaten community's newest club - the Erie Canal Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club. We are open to breeders, handlers, show and performance exhibitors, companion owners...and all those enthusiastic about our breed. Check out our planned events... we welcome broad participation!

Member, Shari Boyd, a long-time breeder of Wheatens, professional handler and chair of the SCWTCA Breeder Education committee, has given talks at some of our local shows. Watch for announcements of future gatherings.

• October 19 - 25, 2026 – Sweater Weather Virtual Club Walk. Break out the knitwear and leash up your Wheatens! Join our virtual Sweater Weather Club Walk, happening anywhere you and your pup like between October 19th and October 25th.

  Walk your favorite route on your own or with others, snap a picture of your pup enjoying the crisp fall air (sweaters and jackets welcome!), and drop your photos on our Facebook page
