SCWT Health & Pedigree Database

The SCWT Health and Pedigree Database is funded and maintained by the SCWTCA Endowment, Inc.  Wheaten Breeders and Owners from all over the world support the Database by submitting information regarding breeding pedigrees, health testing, and medical issues.  As of December 2026, the database contains data on over 108,000 pure-bred Wheaten Terriers. A statement of dedication to the preservation of this beautiful breed. One of the pillars of the mission to preserve the pure-bred Wheaten Terrier is the continued improvement of the health of the breed. The Database serves as photographic and historical reference of our breed. All pure bred Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers are welcome to create a page.

Database as a tool utilized by:

• Prospective Wheaten Owners utilize the Database to review the health testing documented by the breeders they are considering as they search for a prospective puppy. The information helps prospective owners select puppies that are off to the healthiest start to life. Questions email comments@scwtdb.org or health@scwtca.org
• Current Owners consider creating a database page for your dog if one wasn't created for you by your breeder. Keep your dog's health records up to date and send us photos of your Wheaten. If your Wheaten has passed you can create a remembrance page here.
• Breeders submit pedigree data, and the health testing performed on their dogs. They utilize the Database when researching a potential breeding pair. Database information helps breeders recognize health trends that may reveal a need for a research study. Early identification of health trends provides a launching pad to tackle the next health issue to be conquered to benefit the health of the entire breed.
• Researchers exploring for answers to medical mysteries that affect the Breed have access to an abundance of information. Historical data and health records may be utilized to form hypotheses and outline the research study protocol. These studies result in defining diagnoses, treatments development, and eventually, cures for health issues.
• Veterinarians may access the health data to assist in identifying health issues that they may be trying to address with a client. Wheatens are not a common breed in every community; and some Veterinarians are unfamiliar with the breed. The Database is a resource that provides guidance and a link to treatments used in the breed.
